I’m Ray Lima, a Brazilian multidisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, NY. I divide my professional time between post-production and film sets, actively working as a Digital Colorist, Editor, Photographer, DIT, and Art Assistant/Set Dresser. I have advanced skills in DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Creative Suite, ShotPutPro and Final Cut.
I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, where my love for photography began. I used to bring my parents' digital camera to school to photograph my classmates. As a teenager, I taught myself Photoshop, experimenting with retouching my photos, and later attended film school, where I discovered Color Grading and decided to pursue it as a career.
Before becoming a colorist, I worked as an Online Editor for TV broadcasting, mastering the technical aspects of post-production. I worked with various video files and formats on softwares like Final Cut, Premiere, and eventually DaVinci Resolve. In 2015, I began color grading, and in late 2018, my work on a short film earned me an invitation to the LABRFF (Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival). That experience motivated me to move to the United States in search of new opportunities to expand my craft.
After arriving in the U.S., I embraced film photography by purchasing a Minolta XD to reconnect with my roots. I used it to study film textures and enhance my color grading skills. This exploration led me to merge analog and digital techniques by digitizing my negatives and refining them in Photoshop, creating a distinctive and personal visual style.
As a diaspora artist, I’m always seeking ways to communicate my emotions through my work while embracing the audience's free interpretation. My creative journey reflects my passion for blending traditional and modern techniques to produce compelling, evocative art.
